UNITED STATES In February 1994 an "IMD" gathering was initiated by individuals in Kansas City, but this initiative was not continued in following years. In 2001 a number of organizations in the United States are said to have joined in celebrating IMD on 19th November (2001 CBTT source), though there are no records of the event being observed after this date. Hungary joined the IMD celebrations in 2009, on the 10th anniversary of Mens Day. It was commenced by Marie Clarence, writer, who is committed to gender balance and gender equality. The first celebrations are held in Budapest and the opening speech is delivered by UNESCO Cultural Committee's Chairman, Dr Michael Hoppal of Hungary.
